Historical Background
The tradition of Serafimides family in the insurance industry begins in 1938 when Georgios Serafimides (1917-1992) started his professional career in Alexandria of Egypt, where he was working for English insurance companies. In 1955 he came to Athens working as an executive for several insurance companies, and from 1967 until 1988 was the legal representative of the Dutch insurance company “New Rotterdam”.
After a career of 50 years in insurance companies, 1988 was a landmark for the family tradition with a shift to the intermediary sector. Eugenios Serafimides established an independent agency office working with selected insurance companies. Along with the valuable contribution of Mrs. Diakomina Serafimidi who had been working in this industry since 1965, there was continues growth of the agency office, ending up to the establishment of E.SERAFIMIDES & SIA O.E. in 1996.
Always under the management of Eugenios Serafimides, the familial enterprise enters in new orbit of growth, and in the next ten years the successor situation is prepared for the management transfer to the third generation. In 2005, “SIGMA INSURANCE BROKERS SA” is founded under the management of Georgios Serafimides. Three years later, simultaneously with the completion of 70 years of familial tradition in the private insurance, “SIGMA & PARTNERS INSURANCE BROKERS Ltd” is founded in Sofia – Bulgaria, with a clear target of growth in the local market and the wider region of Balkans.
